Dental Cleanings

Dental Cleanings in Greenwood, Indiana

The absolute best way to keep your teeth healthy is through at-home oral hygiene and seeing your dentist twice a month for a routine visit. At each regular visit at Madison Ave Dental, patients get a professional cleaning and examination from Dr. Savabi. The oral examination is beneficial for diagnosing any cavities or areas of dental damage, but regular dental cleanings are an important way to prevent decay.

What Happens in a Dental Cleaning?

Each day, you clean your teeth twice a day through bruising, flossing, and using mouthwash. By doing these things, you remove any food and plaque that has become stuck or lodged in your teeth from the day. Doing this prevents plaque buildup and infections. The second most important way to keep each tooth healthy and cavity-free is to stay updated on your bi-yearly professional, in-office dental cleaning.

The main goal of professional dental cleaning is to help our patients remove any plaque buildup, lodged food, calculus, or hardened plaque and polish each surface. Each treatment takes around 30-40 minutes to complete, depending on what needs to be removed from the teeth.

When you first come into your appointment, you will be greeted by a dental hygienist specially trained in deep cleaning the teeth. They will begin your treatment with a small examination and start removing any hardened debris. From there, they will then use a high-powered, circling toothbrush and a very concentrated toothpaste to polish and clean your teeth.

Finally, after each tooth has been polished, the hygienist will floss between each tooth. To end your dental cleaning visit, Dr. Savabi will come in and examine your teeth for any signs of decay or infection.

Why do I need to have Dental Cleanings?

Optimal oral health comes from at-home oral hygiene practices twice a day and two dental cleanings a year. One of the main benefits of receiving dental cleanings in our office is that they will significantly lower your kids’ risk of developing dental decay. The cleanings and the examination by Dr. Savabi allow any decay to be diagnosed. From there, you can schedule a restorative treatment to repair the tooth.

Repairing your tooth as soon as possible after having decay diagnosed will prevent the decay from growing and spreading to other teeth. Cavities can develop when plaque and sugar are frequently present in the tooth.

Having each family member obtain dental cleanings and examinations will also save you a significant amount of money that could be spent on significant tooth restorations. Stay up to date with your dental cleanings to save your teeth and money.

Child Dental Cleanings

At Madison Ave Dental, we have created an environment where people, including children, feel comfortable and have a great experience. Some parents worry when it is time for their child to have a cleaning because their child is scared, nervous, or even difficult. We understand that going to the dentist and seeing the instruments we use can be nerve-wracking for some children, so we take extra precautions to ensure that the child is comfortable.

We offer minor sedation dentistry such as laughing gas to help relax child and adult patients during their cleaning and other procedures. Please let our office know if you would like to take advantage of sedation dentistry at your next appointment.
